NPR, the AJC, and TEDx — HHCSA Getting Some Media Love
Plus upcoming Hip Hop conferences and special events
👋 Hey friends. It’s been a buuuuusy few weeks, but I have some great news to share.
📝 I’m also working on a sobering, but urgent piece, looking at the onslaught of political and ideological shifts that are endangering public media, our cultural institutions, and our children’s education, and exploring ways that Hip Hop can help counteract them. So stay tuned for that.
📖 In the meantime, I gotta say, I’ve been on a lil’ bit of a media appearances roll lately in support of my book, Hip Hop Can Save America! Inspiration for the Nation from a Culture of Innovation, so I want to share them with you below, in case you missed them.
Mainstream media often fail to represent Hip Hop in the ways we do, so these placements are super important. I’m thrilled they allowed space to share my work and amplify the messages and messengers that I work tirelessly to uplift. I’m working hard to get more attention, but for now, please take a look/listen, and share with your networks, so we make sure THIS narrative about Hip Hop gets the attention it deserves.
📅 Also, as part of my promise to provide value here, below are some important upcoming events, including two big collegiate Hip Hop conferences, and what is pretty much my biggest appearance to date! (Hint: 🔴)
📺 Oh, and the weekly livestream show should be starting back up Sept. 1. If you’re new here, be sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel, peep the archive, and get ready! I’ve already got some super interesting folks lined up.
Lastly, enjoy this latest mixtape release from friend, colleague, and supporter DJ Hoodwink:
This mix is a pulse check on today’s contradictions: where justice is twisted, evidence is erased, and futures are sacrificed. But it’s also a celebration of our refusal to be silenced. When the headlines fail us, the culture doesn’t. Tap in!
OK. Let’s go.

Hip-Hop Has What Our Schools Are Missing: Creative Ways to Enhance Learning
Here’s a quote: “These efforts have helped circumvent and counteract long-standing systemic inequities facing communities of color in particular. Yet in today’s political climate, where culturally responsive curricula and forward-thinking programs are being targeted by nationalist agendas, these innovations are increasingly under threat.
It is exactly why they are needed now more than ever.”
📻 NPR/WABE Interview
“Could the key to advancing AI, educating under-resourced youth, and even healing the divisions of our country lie in hip hop? Author Manny Faces thinks so. A longtime advocate for hip-hop culture and academia, Faces speaks with experts and explores this concept in his new book, ‘Hip Hop Can Save America!’”
