Not Everything That Hip Hop Glitters, Is Hip Hop Gold
The Importance of Critical Thinking in Hip Hop... And In Life.
✈️ Hey friends, neighbors, supporters and haters! So, at this very moment, I’m trapped inside a giant metal structure careening 35,000 feet in the air and I can sit here and calmy write and send a newsletter over slow, but not intolerable WiFi as I streak through the air on my way NYC for the 2024 #HipHopEd conference.
🤯 What a time to be alive.
That being said (written), this wont be a full newsletter with links and event and such. That will soon come.
For now, I just wanted to quickly share my latest video essay, which I published today. It’s one of my “Mannyfestos,” — Ha! Clever, right? 🤣 — looking at some (I think) interesting and really important throughlines within the greater Hip Hop landscape.
💭 This one contains some thoughts on “the media,” recent happenings involving Jay Z and Verzuz, and the critical art of critical thinking — as well as a couple of bad voice impressions, lots of fun jump and zoom cuts which take forever to edit, a conspiracy theory definitely worth considering, and overall, hopefully some helpful and/or valuable food for thought.
🤔 I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments section.
Please be sure you’re subscribed, hit the like button, the notifications bell — all the things. It really helps. 🙏
Thanks, as always.

P.S. If you’re in the Atlanta area, and are interested in podcasting, there’s a really great, FREE, 3-day podcast creators summit next week. I’ll be delivering a session on Friday, June 28 titled “What Real Out-of-the-Box Creativity and Monetization Look Like,” and there are tons of other great sessions to check out.
Again, all free, but you do need to register on Eventbrite.
Here’s the link to my session, and from there you can see all the others.
K. Bye for real now.
