Hip-Hop, social justice, journalism, podcasting
Allow me to re-introduce myself...
Peace and love to all friends, neighbors, supporters and haters. If you know me, it might be from one of several places, online or off, across many possible disciplines, outlets, communities, or random encounters. I have my hands in several pots, each bubbling with some aspect or combination of — as the title of this post suggests — Hip Hop, social justice, journalism or podcasting.
In some cases, all of them at once.
While there may be many places on these here e-streets that may discuss, debate, opine, or otherwise commentate on issues relating to some or all of those topical areas, few do it like I do. This is not (necessarily) a flex, just a hint that you won’t find clickbait or engagement-driven information here — I focus on innovation and inspiration in those fields, the creative, intellectual and often non-traditional application of those disciplines to truly improve society.
But I’m kinda all over the place, platform-wise. So I have chosen this place to now serve as a hub for me to share my thoughts and my work, as well as those of others who are doing important work in these areas.
It’s a place to announce new episodes of my podcast Hip-Hop Can Save America!, which highlights individuals and organizations using Hip-Hop music, culture and spirit in authentic, innovative, and powerful ways to uplift humanity, in areas including education, science and technology, health and wellness, politics and social justice, business and entrepreneurship, the fine arts, spirituality and more.
A place to announce new episodes of News Beat, the reigning New York Press Club Journalism Podcast of the Year which features high-level social justice journalism — interviews with luminaires, academics, activists and folks affected by injustice — mixed with a powerful musical score, and often, original lyrical contributions from brilliant independent Hip Hop artists.
Or other podcasts I work on that I think you might be interested in, like the informative, entertaining and curseword-laden deep dives into socio-economic and progressive politics over at Unf*cking The Republic.
Also, a place to announce my keynote / speaking / guest lecturing appearances. Or DJ gigs. Or podcast appearances.
A place to continue sharing stories of Hip Hop innovation and insight, as I will transition my previous newsletter, The Hip-Hop Advocate, under this new umbrella as well.
This new hub will also serve a place to talk my thoughtful and hopefully inspiring issh about aspects of those four main topics mentioned above.
So you see. Few do what I do. Even fewer do ALL that I do.
Those that know and support me, as they say, already know.
For those who are just finding out about me, I hope you find value in these words I plan to manifest.
Please subscribe for free. And if you do feel so inclined, please tell your friends you found an awesome Substack to check out!
Thank you.
